The Consulate General of Vanuatu in Vietnam is not responsible for issuing Australian transit visas.
Vietnamese passport holders must apply for an Australian Transit Visa through the online system of the Australian Department of Home Affairs (ImmiAccount).
2. Required documents for the Australian Transit Visa
Passengers need to prepare and upload to ImmiAccount:
+ Completed online application form for Transit Visa (Subclass 771).
+ Passport valid for at least 6 months, with blank pages for the visa.
+ Flight ticket to the third country (Port Vila, Vanuatu), departing Australia within 72 hours.
+ Documents proving eligibility to enter Vanuatu (ticket, entry permit, or visa – if required).
+ Proof of financial capacity: bank statements, salary confirmation, or income documents.
+ Additional documents (not mandatory but increase approval chances): Employment confirmation letter, payslips, tax receipts, and information about family/residence in Vietnam (to show strong ties and intention to return).
3. Biometrics Procedure
+ Vietnamese citizens are required to submit biometrics when applying for an Australian visa.
Children under 5 years old: only facial photo is required, no fingerprints.
Children from 5 – 15 years old: must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
+ After submitting the online visa application, you will receive a Biometrics Collection Letter from the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
+ Then book an appointment at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) operated by VFS Global in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City.
+ Bring the required documents: valid passport, Biometrics Collection Letter, appointment confirmation, biometrics fee (collected by VFS, not free).
+ Provide photo and fingerprints at AVAC. The data will be sent directly to the Australian Department of Home Affairs; you do not need to resubmit it.
+ Processing time for the Australian Transit Visa
The usual processing time is about 3 – 40 working days. To ensure your travel plans, applicants should submit their application a few weeks in advance
