Unofficial visiting of Vanuatu Minister of Agriculture

 On April, 24th, 2023, the Consulate General of Vanuatu Office in Ho Chi Minh had a meeting and worked with Vanuatu Minister of Agriculture on the occasion of his and his delegation’s unofficial visit to Vietnam. In it, the Minister of Agriculture introduced key information about agriculture and fisheries in Vanuatu, which is currently the second largest contributor to GDP for the country. Simultaneously, he also proposed policy advice and technical support in agriculture, fishery and small livestock from Vietnam and financial support from the Vietnamese government to cooperate in developing the Agriculture Research and Technical Center (VARDC).

 On behalf of the Vanuatu delegation, there were Mr. Ianaton Nako Natuman (the Minister of Agriculture) and his wife; Mr. Iamauh Lava (the Private Secretary of the Minister); Mr. Johnson Siaka (the Political Advisor).

 On the side of the Consulate General of Vanuatu, there were Mr. Tran Nam Trung – Consul General and his wife; Mr. Bui Ngoc Hung – Deputy Consul General; Ms. Leiwia Simbolo – Consular Attaché; Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Nhan – Manager of Consulate General Office and staff of Consulate General office.

 With the proposal of policy advice on technical assistance in agriculture, aquaculture and small livestock from Vietnam from the Minister of Agriculture, I hope that during the next official visit and have the opportunity to work directly with the Minister. The Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam to seek technical support and seek financial support for the Agricultural Technical Research Center to strengthen development cooperation between the two countries.

 Vanuatu Minister of Agriculture commented: Vietnam is famous around the world for its aquaculture production, the Government of Vietnam has recently supported and created maximum conditions to promote sustainable aquaculture through various policies and mechanisms. Vietnam is also the 4th largest country in the world in aquaculture production after China, Indonesia and India. Therefore, Vanuatu needs policy advice and technical support in agriculture, aquaculture and small livestock from Vietnam so that the Agriculture sector can continue to play an important role in maintaining food security and sustainability health of rural Vanuatu communities.

 Mr. Tran Nam Trung also hoped that during the next visit, the Consulate General of Vanuatu Office could support the delegation of the Minister of Agriculture to have the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with the Minister of Agriculture of Vietnam to seek technical and financial advice and support to contribute to the development of agriculture and fisheries in Vanuatu in particular and to strengthen the two countries’ diplomatic relations in general.

 Concluding the meeting, the Consul General – Tran Nam Trung highly appreciated the meeting and visited the office through the informal trip of the Minister of Agriculture of Vanuatu. He said that the contents provided by the Minister contributed to promoting the bilateral relationship between the two countries, especially the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
